HOOD RIVER — Helping Hands Against Violence (HHAV), a dedicated nonprofit organization serving survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking in Hood River, Oregon is actively seeking passionate individuals to join its Board of Directors. This call to action invites community members committed to social justice, equity, and empowerment to contribute their expertise and leadership to an organization that has been a lifeline for survivors since 1978.
About Helping Hands Against Violence
Founded in response to a local domestic violence tragedy, HHAV has grown from a volunteer-run initiative to a professional organization with two facilities: an emergency shelter and a transitional housing program for survivors. Serving a diverse clientele, HHAV offers a range of services including:
24-hour crisis hotline
Emergency shelter
Transition housing opportunities
Advocacy support
Medical and legal advocacy assistance
Transportation and translation services
Case management and support groups
Basic life skills
All services are available in both English and Spanish.
Board Member Responsibilities
As a member of the Board, individuals will play a pivotal role in guiding HHAV’s strategic direction, ensuring financial stability and upholding the organization’s mission to empower victims, raise public awareness, and maintain a strong volunteer base. Board members are expected to:
Attend regular board meetings (once a month, except July and Dec) and participate in committee work
Advocate for the organization within the community
Provide financial oversight and fundraising support
Offer work or life expertise in areas such as social services, finance, law, or nonprofit management.
