THE GORGE — For the month of March, the purchase of a grilled cheese at participating restaurants will help raise money for Columbia Gorge Food Bank.
Participating restaurants in “The Great Gorge MELT” are The Balch Hotel, Dufur; Bargeway Pub, Rivertap, Spooky’s, Zim’s Sports Bar & Grill and Cousin’s Restaurant and Saloon in The Dalles; and Pine Street Bakery, Ferment Brewing Company and Double Mountain in Hood River.
Columbia Gorge Food Bank, a locally operated transitional branch of Oregon Food Bank, serves more than 7,000 neighbors a month through more than 40 community partner hunger relief sites in Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman counties, according to a food bank press release.
“At Columbia Gorge Food Bank (CGFB), we hold people experiencing hunger and food insecurity at the center of our actions and decisions,” said the press release. “We envision a community where each person can participate, prosper and have access to food that is both nourishing and culturally relevant.
“We commit to serve our communities in ways that value the people who live here and their lived experiences,” continued the press release. “We resolve to listen to and include these communities in our work, and to respond where bias and inequities appear. Our food programs and public policy efforts aim to build a society where everyone can thrive — celebrating our differences and working together to overcome injustices that might divide us ... because no one should be hungry.”
