HOOD RIVER — Gorge Happiness, a non-profit dedicated to promoting happiness within communities, is thrilled to launch “Art-A-Day,” a creative initiative designed to bring joy and foster creativity in the month of February.
Art-A-Day Month is a fun and informal project encouraging participants to engage in daily creative activities throughout February. Participants are encouraged to create something each day, whether it’s contributing to a larger project or exploring distinct daily projects that form a collection by the end of the month. There are no limits to the size or type project. Examples include writing a daily poem, creating a sketch or doodle, writing a postcard, making a small collage, taking a photograph, writing a songline, describing the sky, knitting part of a scarf, or adding to a painting.
The month-long endeavor will culminate in an optional final gathering at Dog River Coffee (411 Oak St., Hood River) on Feb. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. This event provides an opportunity for participants to share their imperfect creations and celebrate the collective artistic journey.
Research shows that engaging in everyday creative activities contributes to increased happiness and energy levels. Additionally, maintaining a positive mood is closely linked to creative thinking. Art-A-Day Month is not just a celebration of creativity but also in defiance of perfectionism, a factor associated with depression.
Art-A-Day is open to everyone, regardless of artistic background or experience. The goal is to infuse more creativity into daily life, with a focus on the joy of the creative process rather than artistic prowess. Creativity knows no bounds, and participants are invited to share their creations throughout the month on social media using the tag @GorgeHappiness. The end-of-month party provides an in-person gathering for participants to share their art or gain inspiration from others.
