HOOD RIVER — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle on I-84 Monday, Dec. 9, according to Oregon State Police (OSP) media logs.
The 38-year-old Hood River resident was running eastbound in the westbound on-ramp of I-84, at Exit 64, as reported to OSP at 5:11 p.m.Â
Then reports came of the person being hit. The male pedestrian was declared deceased in the roadway. Investigation found they were struck in between lanes of travel, by a westbound yellow Volvo commercial vehicle pulling a tanker trailer, driven by a 62-year-old Kelso, Washington, resident.Â
A crime unit member responded to collect evidence, and White Salmon Police notified next of kin. The Hood River District Attorney and medical examiner authorized removal of the deceased person.
The interstate was closed for about three hours during the on-scene investigation. Investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
OSP was assisted by the Hood River Police Department, Hood River Sheriff’s Office, Hood River Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
