Democracy is strongest when every voter can participate easily and without barriers.
Founded in 1920, The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a grassroots, membership-based civic engagement organization with chapters throughout the United States. One of the newest ones is the Klickitat-Skamania Member-at-Large League, which recently received its chapter designation from the League of Women Voters of Washington State.
Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16. Voting membership is available to those who have paid annual dues in support of League programs and activities. Meetings of the Klickitat-Skamania League are held monthly. To learn when and where meetings occur, the email contact is lwvklickitatskamania@gmail.com.
The LWV welcomes every one, not just women. Being non-partisan is a cornerstone of its values. The League encourages informed and active participation of all citizens in government. Their primary activities are dedicated to helping eligible voters become registered, promoting civic engagement, providing accurate and timely voter information, encouraging voter turnout, and upholding the protection of democracy through voting rights and fair elections.
In this time of political anxiety and division, one of the best remedies is positive action. Volunteering, voting, or supporting causes you believe in can help make a tangible difference in our local communities. Joining the League of Women Voters is a great way to get involved and play an active role in supporting democracy.
