The White Salmon Valley Pool project is near and dear to my heart. When I was young, my family did not miss a chance to tease me about the amount of time I spent in the water. When given the opportunity, I was first in the pool and the very last to get out.
Swimming was then and will always be a favorite pastime. Knowing that, like me, swimming is important to so many others, and also acknowledging the need for all kids in our community to have access to water safety instruction, I’ve volunteered my help to get the construction of a new pool in White Salmon over the finish line.
Since 2019, when the old pool was decommissioned, White Salmon has been in the process of rebuilding a pool for our community. I’m happy to report today that they are closer than ever. The design is complete, the building permits are ready, and the future ongoing operation costs for maintenance and staffing are secured. What is needed now are the remaining funds to actually break ground in 2026.
As of today, nearly 70% of the costs have been secured, totaling $5.76 of the $8.4 million needed. In order to break ground in 2026, we need to raise a significant amount by the end of this year, nearly $900,000.
If you are planning to support pool construction in the future, I ask that you not wait. Now’s the time to make that contribution. Please consider adding the pool to your 2025 year-end charitable donations, if not before. Any amount you can give will be put to good use.
An added note: A couple in our community have offered a generous matching donation of $250,000. This is a true challenge. They will provide the funds when the full amount of matching funds are received. Donate now to double your gift and get us closer to those matching funds. Please make your tax-deductible donation to White Salmon Valley Pool Metro Park District. Currently, donation checks are the only means to donate. An online donation link will be added to the website in the coming days. Mail your donation check to: White Salmon Valley Pool MPD, P.O. Box 2533, White Salmon, WA, 98672. For more information on the progress of the campaign and the future plans for the pool, visit www.whitesalmonvalleypool.org.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting the pool capital campaign. Our pool in White Salmon will benefit our community’s children and their families for years to come.
