Contributed photoHOOD RIVER — Cardinal Glass and FISH Food Bank partnered at the 2023 Families in the Park concert series to raise $25,000 for people in need of food assistance.
As previously reported in Columbia Gorge News, FISH has seen record numbers of people in need of food assistance this summer and in mid-July had to turn families away due to empty shelves.
Though Oregon Food Bank donates canned goods with the exception of proteins at this time of year, resources are spread thin — FISH serves Mosier, Cascade Locks and Parkdale in addition to its Hood River site.
“We consider it to have been an immense success,” Nikkita Paulson, Cardinal Glass, said. “We raised a staggering and humbling $20,103.35. It takes a community, and our community certainly came together. With the match, FISH was able to receive a much needed $25,103.35.”
Paulson credited Mike Schend for his support at Families in the Park, Columbia Gorge News for publishing an article, Mark Bailey for announcing it on the radio and the individual community members who donated to this fundraiser.
“The community is amazing for coming together and supporting their neighbors,” Paulson said.
