Remember this is Klickitat County Fair week and folks from all over the county will travel to Goldendale to see the wonderful entries that create the excitement of the annual event. Whose entry will take Grand Champion? From livestock to a loaf of bread, pickles to petunias, pottery to photography, or fall vegetables to felt vests, there's a class for each to display local talent. And who can pass up that pile of curly fries or ball of cotton candy?
A friendly reminder to everyone, about locking your cars and securing personal possessions out of the reach of the thieves that prowl Lyle streets. We received a call from a local resident who had their car ransacked and possessions stolen right in their driveway. Valuables such as cash and a GPS were taken. The sheriff's office was notified and the deputy was able to obtain valuable evidence that will likely lead to the apprehension of the culprits, which will give relief to the surrounding neighborhood. It is sad that there are those who wish to sit back and let others work and earn possessions so that a thief can just waltz in and take it with no conscience, so be a good neighbor. Watch out for anything unusual in your neighborhood and don't hesitate to call the authorities. It's better to have it be nothing than to have someone else experience the loss of personal property they have worked hard to achieve.
The Columbia Grange Hall's basement was filled with family and friends as they shared treasured memories of Shirley Tanner at her memorial service held on Saturday, Aug. 14. She was a cornerstone to the community for many years and will be sorely missed.

"History and Music in the Park" will be hosted by The Twin Bridges Museum on Sunday, 6-8 p.m., Aug. 29. This will be a free event for the community and an opportunity to share in some local history, great music and delicious food. Lyle Park Place's new pavilion will finally receive its dedication that day, making yet another historic event to be documented. Be sure to be there and be a part of history in the making.
