Washougal led from start to finish on the way to a 63-33 non-league girls basketball victory over Columbia High here Dec. 21.
The Class 3A Panthers (5-3) scored the game's first eight points and led by as many as 35 in winning this season's only scheduled meeting between the two teams.
Columbia (2-4) didn't score its first basket until the 2:47 mark of the first quarter and never got closer than seven points.
Senior Corrine Blankenship and freshman Ericka Ziegler each had eight points for the Bruins, who trailed 16-5 after one quarter, 37-11 at halftime and 50-21 at the end of three.
The Bruins also got six points from sophomore Chelsea Ludwig, three from sophomore Jenny Pulido and two each from senior Megan Harvey, junior Becky Clary, sophomores Chani Weiler and freshman Mackenzie VanLaar.
Washougal junior Krissy Bassett led all scorers, pouring in 26 points.
Washougal JV 48, Columbia High JV 22 --
The Junior Bruins, playing with a short bench, led 12-7 after the first quarter but couldn't hold off the Panthers jayvee in the second.
Washougal outscored CHS, 23-4, in the second quarter to seize the lead for good.
Junior Amy Courtney's seven points paced the Junior Bruins (2-4). Sophomore Brooke Hathaway added six points and five rebounds and sophomore Michele Shrum had four points, six rebounds and three steals.
Freshman Erica Clevidence chipped in three points, six rebounds and a team-leading four steals, and junior Sara Ribeiro tallied five rebounds and two points.
Columbia High JV 62, at Lyle JV 4 --
Sophomore Michele Shrum's 12 points led a quartet of double-figure scorers in the Junior Bruins' Dec. 10 victory over the Cougars jayvee.
Juniors Mindi Brandt and Sara Ribeiro, and freshman Erica Clevidence each scored 10 points.
The Junior Bruins put in 28 points in the first half, during which they held Lyle scoreless.
Sophomores Britta Knutson and Jenny Pulido added eight and seven points respectively to the CHS cause.
