According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Pat Shortt, on Aug. 2, 2008, at approximately 9:25 p.m. a 1997 Ford Taurus four-door driven by Violet Lucinda Oatman, 23, from Odell, was northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 35 near milepost 94 when it collided head-on with a southbound 1999 Ford F350 pickup driven by Ramiro Diaz Zamudio, 36, from southeast Portland.
Oatman, who was using safety restraints, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Diaz Zamudio was transported to Hood River Providence Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Safety restraint use information is to be determined.
Right front passenger Celeino Valle-Guzman, 45, from Hood River, was not injured. Safety restraint use information is not available for this release.
Right rear passenger Raymundo Delayo-Lopez, 38, from southeast Portland, was critically injured and transported by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from The Dalles Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Hood River County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and local fire department personnel assisted at the scene.
Highway 35 was closed about four hours during the on-scene investigation.

Two Portland men were injured in a one-vehicle accident on State Route 141 at milepost 24, in Trout Lake. The accident occurred on Aug. 3, 2008, at approximately 12:10 p.m.
According to the report, Gerald R. Rosenblum Jr., 30, Portland, was driving his 1996 Honda northbound on SR 141, entering a curve to the left. Rosenblum failed to negotiate the curve. The motorcycle, Rosenblum and his passenger went over on the left side. The motorcycle slid on the pavement, going off the roadway to the east. Both riders were ejected.
Rosenblum suffered a broken ankle, knee, hip, rib and had a punctured lung. He was transported to Skyline Hospital and then taken by Life Flight to Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
His passenger, Carl G. Parlier, 29, Portland, had abrasions and was transported to Skyline Hospital.
The accident is still under investigation.
The state patrol responded to an unoccupied, one-vehicle accident on Aug. 4, 2008. The accident occurred at milepost 11 on SR 142, one mile south of Klickitat.
According to the report, a 1971 Ford pickup was southbound on Appleton Road. It traveled through the intersection of Appleton Road and SR 142 and off the east bound shoulder of SR 142. The vehicle then collided with a tree and came to rest in the Klickitat River.
Te owner of the vehicle was not named in the report.
SKAMANIA COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE
The Skamania County Sheriff's Office received a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, 2008, that an 11-year-old autistic boy from the Portland, Ore., area was missing.
He was last seen on the Siouxon trail at approximately 5 p.m. The Siouxon trailhead is approximately eight miles east of the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument headquarters in Chelatchie Prairie on the Forest Service 5701 road.
Resources have been mobilized to assist with the search effort.
The Type 3 All Hazard Incident Management Team from Region 4 has been requested to manage the resource allocation for this incident.
