RALPH "BILL" BOYDEN
Long time White Salmon resident Dr. Ralph William Boyden, Jr. D.D.S. "Bill" 80; passed away Jan. 24, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago on May 13, 1931 and grew up in the suburb of Glen Ellyn, attending Glenbard High School.
He attended the University of Idaho on a Naval ROTC scholarship. He married his college sweetheart, Margaret White, after graduating in 1953. During his years in the Navy, he was stationed in San Diego, Calif., where his oldest children, daughter Elaine, was born. After fulfilling his 3-year commitment to the Navy he then entered Dental School at the University of Washington in Seattle, where his son Bill was born. In 1961, he and family moved to White Salmon, where he set up practice. In White Salmon his youngest child, daughter Jennifer, was born.
He was very active in the community, Rotary Club, White Salmon school board, ADA and the Methodist Church.
Following Margaret's passing in 1999 and his subsequent retirement, he married Glenbard High classmate Aleene "Lee" Hargreaves Henninger on May 13, 2000, and relocated to Glen Ellyn.
Bill was a devoted father and grandfather; he and Aleene made frequent trips to the White Salmon area to visit his children, grandchildren and friends.
Bill leaves behind three children: Elaine (Colin), Bill (Shelley) and Jennifer; eight grandchildren: Amancay Maahs, Canela (Tom) Springer, Kyle Wood (Andrea), Angelica Boyden, Marten Boyden, Emily Boyden, ThaiAnn Carr, and Lou Carr; and, step-children: Carl (Dawn) Henninger, Curt Henninger, Dawn (Peter) Lantero, and Jodi (Rob) Herbold and 11 step-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in White Salmon.
MASAHI MIGAKI
Masashi Frank Migaki, 96, a resident of Dallesport, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Rowena, Ore., on May 30, 1915, the oldest of three children to Yasujiro and Tsuruno (Ogawa) Migaki. He grew up in Rowena where he attended grade school and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1933.
Masashi married Mary Yoneko Tamura on Feb. 18, 1940, at The Dalles Congregational Church. They resided in Rowena for a short time, then moved to Dallesport for 71 years, except during the war they were evacuated to Pinedale, Calif., and then to Tule Lake, Calif.
After about eight months they got jobs in Ontario, Ore. They were allowed to return to their home in Dallesport after the war. They raised many varieties of vegetables and fruit on their truck farm. He retired when he was about 75.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Dallesport Volunteer Fire Dept, Columbia Grange #87, JACL, Dallesport Irrigation District, and helped build the Dallesport Community Center.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, square dancing, mushroom hunting, clam digging, Trail Blazer Games, and traveling. He was also an avid spectator of his children and grandchildren's sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary; his daughters, Janet Smith and husband Walt of The Dalles, and Rebecca Beeks and husband Dennis of Dallesport; his sons, Roger Migaki and wife Delia of Vancouver and Gerald Migaki and wife Annie of Beaverton, Ore.; his grandchildren, Debbie Tobin and husband Brian, Rick Beeks and wife Tracie, Steve Smith and wife Cary, Melissa Severson, Miko Hoy and husband Ray, and Tim Migaki; 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Viewing was held Sunday, March 11, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Westhafer officiating.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home with Pastor John Westhafer officiating.
Donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Hospice of The Gorge.
