CLARA HUNTER
Clara Mae Hunter, 88, passed away at the Oregon Veterans' Home in The Dalles, Ore., on June 1, 2012. She was born in Browerville, Minn., on April 22, 1924, to Annie (Steinert) and James Strahl.
Clara moved to the Northwest and worked in the shipyard during World War Two. She then attended business college where she met Russell R. Hunter. The couple married in Vancouver, Washington on Feb. 16, 1950. They later moved to Lyle and started their family.
Clara cooked at Lyle Schools for over 20 years and will always be remembered for her wonderful lunches. She loved painting, camping and playing cards with friends, but spending quality time with her family was what brought her the most joy.
Survivors include daughter Nancy Richardson and her husband Jim of White Salmon; sons Russ Hunter and his wife Roxie and Jeff Hunter and his wife Margie both of Lyle; grandchildren Jamie Richardson of Dallesport, Les Richardson of Nashville, Tenn., Marshall Hunter of Pasco, Jeremy Hunter of Bellingham; Brandi Egbert of Black Diamond; Kim Bartolotti of Prineville, Ore.; Brad Hunter of Tyler, Texas; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Howard Strahl of Little Falls, Minn., Florence Bellamy of Little Falls, Virginia Griego of Salt Lake City, Utah, Loretta Gilbertson of Sheboygan, Wisc., Karen Malone of Waupaca, Wisc. and Glen Strahl of Minnesota. Clara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold Strahl and sisters Irene Strahl and Marie Frank.
At the request of their parents, no funeral service will be held. The children may have a celebration of both parents' lives at a later date.
HAYDEN DOUGLAS
Hayden Wendell Douglas was born June 17, 2008, in Hood River, Ore., to Kayla Linn (Crank) and Robert James Douglas. He passed away on June 4, 2012, just shy of his fourth birthday, at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Ore.
Hayden was a funny, sweet and sometimes ornery boy who loved motorcycles and guns. He was his dad's hunting buddy, and when they weren't hunting for real, Hayden would often go on imaginary hunts. He had a contagious laugh. For Hayden, Tuesday was an important day. "Are you coming over on Tuesday?" or "How was your Tuesday?" he would ask.
Hayden will be missed and remembered by his parents, Robert and Kayla of Astoria, Ore.; little brother, Bradley Douglas, of Astoria; grandparents Christine and Bo Devaul of Appleton, Bonnie and John Trosper of Wishram, Gary Peabody and Jackie DeRosia of Centralia, and David Gutierrez and Leigh Stratton of Hood River; and great grandma and grandpa Trosper.
A celebration of Hayden's life was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.
