Three players scored in double figures but the Columbia High girls jayvee basketball team couldn't overcome a 14-point halftime deficit Dec. 7, losing at Kalama, 43-49.
Sophomore Jenny Pulido put in a team-high 11 points for the Junior Bruins (2-2), who also got 10 each from sophomores Brooke Hathaway and Britta Knutson.
Sophomore Michele Shrum, junior Amy Courtney and freshman Erica Clevidence each tallied four points.
The Junior Bruins trailed by one, 18-17, at halftime but fell behind, 38-24, at the end of three quarters.
Junior Bruins Coach Candy Fetsch said her team missed freshman point guard Naomi Halpern, who sat out the game with an injured ankle.
Columbia stayed in the game because of a strong effort on the backboards. The Junior Bruins out-rebounded the Chinooks JV, 48-36, overall and 20-16 on the offensive glass.
Knutson led CHS with 13 rebounds, sophomore Michele Shrum pulled down 10 and Pulido added seven.
Hathaway had six boards to go with a team-best five steals, and shared teams honors in assists--with Shrum--at two.
Clevidence also had six rebounds, and Pulido, Knutson and Courtney each had four steals.
