The West Klickitat County Historical Society announces there will be visiting exhibits beginning on July 24 and running through Aug. 31, Thursday to Sunday from 11:30 to 4:30, at the Gorge Heritage Museum in Bingen.
Glassware of the Depression Era will be presented courtesy of Maryann Stembridge's collection. Maryann and husband, Owen, live and work in White Salmon and Bingen. She became interested in collecting this highly prized collectable a few years ago and has become fascinated with the product.
Come and enjoy the history of how this idea revolutionized the making of glass during an extreme period in this country. Learn how wide spread this industry influenced the American public through prizes in laundry soap, cereals and other promotional ideas, and why it remains so popular currently.
The other exhibit is of baskets and beadwork connected to Klickitat County history. These are beautifully handcrafted items with interesting history. You'll have to visit to learn more.
The Gorge Heritage Museum was established in 1984 and housed in the former Bingen Congregational Church (building dedicated May 1912). The parent organization is the West Klickitat County Historical Society and its Board of Trustees totals 11.
The museum is maintained through donations at the door, as well as any other way individuals care to contribute. The museum was organized by and is cared for by volunteers.
