Trout Lake wrapped up a busy week and the Greater Columbia B League's Klickitat County Division title with a 68-41 victory at Bickleton last Saturday.
Senior Mike Hansen's 17 points led a balanced Mustangs offense, which featured four players in double figures.
Junior Kris Huffsmith scored 15, junior Ben Steward 14 and senior Roy Browning 11. Freshman Tim Dearden added six points.
The Mustangs charged to a 21-5 first-quarter lead and appeared poised to blow the Pirates out of the water early.
But better defensive play and shot selection in the second quarter helped Bickleton pull within 26-21 by halftime.
The third quarter, however, belonged to Trout Lake, which broke the game open with a 23-6 run.
At Glenwood 56, Klickitat 52 --
The Eagles held off the Vandals in the second half last Saturday to move into third place in division standings.
Junior Tanner Beeks scored 15 of his team-high 24 points in the first half to help Glenwood take a 38-31 into the intermission.
Klickitat kept the game close, though, rallying within 47-45 at the end of three quarters.
Sophomore J.J. Keys finished with a game-best 25 points for the Vandals, who also got 13 from junior James Brewer.
For the Eagles, junior Trent Steinbach scored a season-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and junior Mitch Wheelhouse added 10 points.
At Lyle 55, Bickleton 35 --
The Cougars outscored the last-place Pirates, 12-0, in the third quarter last Friday to take control of the GCB contest.
Senior Justin Carlson scored 14 points and sophomore Martin Grace had 11 for Lyle, which strengthened its grip on second place in division standings.
The Cougars led 18-14 after one quarter and 29-22 at halftime, then extended their defense in the third to put more pressure on the ball and deny the Pirates good, open looks at the basket.
Trout Lake 69, at Glenwood 40 --
The division-leading Mustangs made it three in a row over the Eagles, running away in the third quarter last Friday.
Trout Lake outscored Glenwood, 26-14, in the period to stretch a 27-19 halftime lead to 53-33.
Forward Mike Hansen paced the Mustangs, netting 20 of his season-high 29 points in the second half.
Roy Browning tallied 15 and Ben Steward added 10.
For Glenwood, Mitch Wheelhouse was the top scorer with 14 points. Tanner Beeks followed with 13, and junior Tony Leiter chipped in 11.
At Trout Lake 54, Lyle 45 --
Three players reached double figures Feb. 3 to help the Mustangs grind out a division-clinching victory over the Cougars.
Mike Hansen finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Roy Browning had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Trout Lake, which also got 11 points from Kris Huffsmith.
Junior Kalvin Kernan led Lyle with 15 points and seven rebounds, while senior Justin Carlson tallied seven rebounds and six points playing on a sprained ankle.
The Mustangs eked out a 9-8 lead in the first quarter and led 21-19 at halftime and 35-28 after three periods of play.
