Draft enrollment figures released Monday by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association place Columbia High School and Stevenson in the new 1A classification.
Preliminarily, Columbia (313 students in grades 10-12) and Stevenson (306), currently Class 2A schools, would become members of a reconstituted SW Washington 1A League's southern division for WIAA's 2006-08 classification cycle.
Columbia and Stevenson would be joined in their new rank by Hockinson (449), La Center (350), Castle Rock (344), Ilwaco (308) and Kalama (248), though Hockinson, now four years old and given its steady enrollment growth, could "opt up" to 2A.
The cutoff between 1A and 2A is 476 students in the top three grades.
New Class 1B schools (cutoff 88) would include Trout Lake-Glenwood (63), Klickitat (31.38) and Bickleton (20). Lyle (93) would fall under the 2B class.
According to WIAA, schools have until next Thursday, Dec. 15, to correct their enrollment numbers and/or declare their intent to opt up to another classification.
After Dec. 19, WIAA's executive board will finalize classifications for 2006-08.
