Doesn't Lyle look spiffy now that everyone cleared their lawns and areas of debris? There were approximately 150 yards brought to the Clean Up and hauled off to the transfer station in Dallesport.
So many volunteers to thank for their diligent hard work, some of whom are: Juliet Pouillon assisted on Friday as well as Sid Slate with his family who worked both days; on Saturday, Terry Mills and Glenda Lovejoy joined Joy Collins, Barbara Sexton, and Mildred Lykens to finish out the crew.
Even the weather cooperated, leaving yet another Lyle Community Council project put to bed.
Senior Citizen Computer Class is growing. The volunteer "teachers" are busy helping people at whatever levels of each student expertise, from turning on and off the computer to downloading photos to dvds. The classes are held on Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lyle Activity Center, and are free. Class motto is: "There's no dumb questions."
The Lady Sundowners April's luncheon was held at Shari's in The Dalles on Monday, April 4. Six ladies shared their monthly family news and enjoyed the companionship.
Under the tutelage of Norm White and Karen Harpole, several high school seniors are constructing a cement barbecue station at the pavilion in the park as their senior project. This will bring much enjoyment for picnickers the year round.
Some History from a booklet titled "Columbia Grange 1989-1967." "A special meeting was called on Jan. 11 and a committee appointed to draw up a constitution and by-laws. It was moved, seconded and carried to adopt the by-laws of the State Grange. Dues for 14 members were collected, -- a total of $4.20, or .30 cents per member."
"At the Feb. 14 meeting Worthy Master J.O. Lyle and Brother John Olson were elected to represent the Grange at County Council at No. 6. It was moved and seconded the Secretary send for a seal, which cost .40 cents."
