The duo of Brett and Blake Evans combined for 19 carries and 260 yards and five touchdowns, as the No. 3-ranked Sherman Huskies scored 32 points in the opening quarter for a 68-18 victory Friday in a Big Sky Conference battle at Ione High School.
Overall, Sherman ran 47 plays and amassed 516 yards for an average of 10.9 yards a snap.
“We executed very well on offense,” said interim coach Kyle Blagg. “It was not just one player, it was everyone working together that allowed us to put points on the scoreboard.”
Sherman hit the end zone on its first four drives, using a four-yard run from Brett Evans, followed by runs of 30 and 27 yards by Blake Evans to make it a 24-0 contest.
By the end of the opening frame, Maverick Winslow joined in on the barrage with a 7-yard scamper to swell the lead to 32-0.
The Huskies did not let up one inch in the second quarter, as Winslow rallied for a 16-yard run to score, 38-0.
Austin Kaseberg then completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Brett Evans to increase the Sherman advantage to 46-0.
Of the six first-half touchdown drives, the Huskies also made good on 5 of 6 two-point conversions.
Ione made things respectable with two scoring drives and a score of 46-12 at the break, but could only muster one second-half marker.
At the seven-minute and 38-second mark of the third frame, Brett Evans hit paydirt from 31 yards, and Winslow tacked on his third touchdown of the day with a 7-yard run to run the count to 62-12.
Sherman was out in front 62-18 to start the final quarter, when Kyle Fields dialed in an accurate throw to Kaiden Paulette from 15 yards for a score to cap the summary.
Brett Evans had 161 yards on nine carries to go with his three trips to the end zone.
Blake Evans had 99 yards and two tallies, and Winslow had 68 yards rushing on five totes and three more scores.
Paulette and Reese Blake added a combined 16 carries for 89 yards to account for Sherman’s 417 yards on the ground.
Kaseberg completed 3 of 5 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown.
“It will get tougher from here,” Blagg said. “We need to stay focused on one game at a time and get better as we go.”
Sherman (5-0 overall, 2-0 league) hosts No. 24 Condon (3-2, 2-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Moro.
