The Sherman Huskies had a scare in Friday’s 54-48 win over Arlington and righted the ship at home Saturday versus Mitchell-Spray by a 74-32 final.
Sherman expanded on its 12-10 lead after one quarter with a 19-6 rally to go out in front, 31-16 at halftime.
Ahead 43-25 entering the fourth period, the Huskies managed two field goals, both by Luke Martin, while Arlington had four players combined for a 23-11 run, getting as close as four points late in the final quarter with possession.
A missed shot on Arlington’s ensuing time up the floor allowed Sherman to settle in with free throws to seal the win.
Martin posted 13 points, Tyler Jones tallied 10, Owen Christiansen added nine and Wade Fields dropped eight points for the Huskies, who hit 20 field goals, five 3-pointers, and made 9 of 12 from the line.
Wesley Goad led Arlington with 15 points, Jace Troutman kicked in 11 and Diego Valdez ended up with nine points.
Arlington hit 18 field goals, three 3-pointers, and shot 9 of 14 free throws.
In Sherman’s game at the Moda Center in Portland on Jan. 9, Martin and Keenan Coles reeled off 17 points each, and Caleb Fritts chipped in eight points in a 52-42 victory over St. Paul.
The Huskies went on runs of 17-7 and 12-6 in the first two quarters to lead by a 29-13 halftime score.
Sherman (12-2 overall, 6-0 league) is in Echo at 7:30 p.m. Friday and hosts Ione at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
