Crash Test

SHIRLEY CASTNER, left, nervously watches her crash test car with “Renegades” teammates Rochelle Tilton and Tupulua Tiolu-Fuaitu Thursday morning at The Dalles Middle School. In Jocelyn Paris’ 7th and 8th grade science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) class, each group had to build a car that could safely protect an egg as it went down a ramp and crashed into a wall. The Renegades, which also included Easten Deaville [not pictured], was one of two teams whose egg survived the crash. They said the key to their success was the vehicle’s cotton ball airbags and seat belt made of duct tape.
