The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team competed in their first OSAA Class 4A Special District 1 tournament in over two weeks on April 8 in the Crook County High School Invitational at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. The large event consisted of 15 teams.
The Riverhawks’ quartet of senior Connor Sam, junior Gabe Hoff, sophomore Leighton Voodre, and Logan Baumgarten shot a team score of 448. Baker won with a 325.
Sam shot 104, Hoff 105, Voodre 11, and Baumgarten 128.
The Dalles competed in its seventh event of the year in the nine-team North Marion Invitational on April 11 at Langdon Farms Golf Course in Aurora. The Riverhawks had three scoring players: Voodre, who shot a personal best score of 90; followed by Hoff (101) and Sam (107). Voodre was 11th out of 36 players.
“They did okay at Prineville, but there’s a lot of areas with water features [nine ponds, a creek], on the course which are at nearly every hole, so it can be kind of tough at times,” said Coach Dan Telles.
The Riverhawks will compete April 18 at 11 a.m. in the Mountain View High School Invitational at Awbrey Glen Golf Club in Bend and April 22 at Seaside. “It’s going to be a tough course to play on at Bend, because you’re always battling the elements there with the higher elevation and it can be very challenging since there’s lots of hills, but I think the boys can adjust to it,” said Telles.
