THE DALLES — The Dalles girls soccer team was still undefeated after an 8-0 victory over Madras in a Tri-Valley Conference game on Oct. 16 at The Dalles High School.
The Riverhawks got going early, leading to a mercy rule victory at halftime.
“The girls all year have been playing well as a team, and today was more of that,” said Riverhawk Coach Colby Tonn after the win. “I mean, they really look for each other on the field. They play unselfish. They play one-and-two touch. They do a good job of getting it out wide, and getting it back in, and also getting it in and getting it out. Our back line’s always solid and looks to possess. And when you start from the back and work your way up, good things happen.”
Ariana Gonzalez and Willow Ziegenhagen each scored two goals for The Dalles (11-0). Alondra Romero, Leila Garcia, Natalia Elias, and Lilyana Gonzalez also scored goals.
“I think our team played really well together,” said Lilyana Gonzalez, a junior. “We passed really good. We’ve been applying things we’ve been learning in practices. So, I think that was a good win.”
“I’m looking forward to getting past league and seeing how we do in finals,” said Riverhawk junior Kaiya Doty of the state playoffs.
The Dalles has three regular season games left: Oct. 21 at Gladstone; Oct. 23 at Estacada; and Oct. 28 vs. Molalla. The top two teams in the Tri-Valley will qualify for the OSAA Class 4A state playoffs, which begin Nov. 4.
