Anne Marie Galloway, beloved sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and community historian, passed away on Nov. 15, 2025, in Albany, Oregon. She was 76 years old. Anne was born on Dec. 31, 1948, in Corvallis, Oregon, to Lorne Douglas Galloway and Vernita Crystal (Henson) Galloway. She grew up alongside her sister, Kathy Scholz, with whom she shared a lifelong bond.
Her childhood was rooted in the Willamette Valley, where she formed early friendships. Anne lived in several Oregon communities over the years, including Portland and Albany. She had a nursing degree. Her career began at Providence Hospital, she later moved to Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer ward. There she spent 25 years of service in the cancer ward.
Beyond her nursing career, Anne nurtured a wide array of passions. She was an avid genealogist, immersing herself in both family research and local historical studies. She cherished time in the mountains, the art of mule-team riding, and participating in historical reenactments. She loved British television, music, self-improvement projects, and learning of any kind. Travel was one of her greatest joys, especially her adventures: Kahneeta, in the southwest was her passion (Arizona, New Mexico). She enjoyed studying Pacific Northwest history, especially in Oregon and worked for several years at Linng and Scio Historical Society, specializing in collections. Those who knew her will remember her dry sense of humor and simple pleasures: Pepsi, Baby Ruth bars, Cheetos, and McDonald’s lemonade.
Anne is survived by her sister, Kathy Galloway; nephews Matthew Sutton (Maryland) and Michael Scholz (Washington); niece Lisa Herron (Idaho); and cousin Tom Marquette (Oregon). She also leaves behind many treasured friends, including the nurses and staff with whom she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorne Douglas Galloway (1972) and Vernita Crystal Henson Galloway (2012).
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River. A celebrant or speaker will be announced; family members may offer remarks.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Linda Walker and Tom Marquette for their support and tireless efforts on Anne’s behalf.
