THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks lost two more non-league girls basketball games to ranked opponents this past week.
The No. 16-ranked Riverhawks (5-7) faced two top-10 ranked squads on the road. The evening after New Year’s Day, the Riverhawks traveled to Tillamook to face the No. 7-ranked Cheesemakers (9-1) and they lost in triple overtime, 73-68. The 73 points scored by the Cheesemakers represented a season high for a Riverhawk opponent this year.
The Riverhawks were led in scoring by sophomore Bryce Newby, who recorded a double-double, with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The trio of senior Hailey Johnston (19 points, four steals, three blocked shots), junior Morgan Donivan (seven points) and freshman Anuhea Peters (six points, 13 rebounds, eight steals) also had strong performances for the Riverhawks.
A week later, the Riverhawks traveled to the Oregon Coast to meet the No. 3-ranked Seaside High Seagulls (8-3) and they lost 58-24. The Riverhawks’ 24 points marked their season low point total.
The Riverhawks will be seeking to snap their two-game losing streak when they play their next non-league game Jan. 17 at home at 4:30 p.m. against the No. 11-ranked Pendleton High Buckaroos (6-7).
