Junior Alaina Casady cruised to a couple of personal records in the distance races and there were plenty of other season bests produced by The Dalles High track and field team April 26 at the 20-team Dean Nice Invitational in Gresham.
Of the 20 schools, two were Class 4A — The Dalles and Philomath — while the majority were Class 6A.
Casady was second — the highest individual finish for a Riverhawk athlete — in the 3000-meter run with a PR 10-minute, 41.25-second effort. She also was seventh in the 1500 in a PR 5:00.77. Teammate Abigail Pope ran the metric mile in 5:30.77 (PR), and Kestley Hodges PR’d in the 3000 at 11:29.77. Ruby Jaimes Mora and Laura Black also had solid days in the 800; Jaimes Mora ran 2:38.94 and Black ran a PR 2:42.42.
Casady is now in the top five all-time on The Dalles school record listings in the 1500 and 3000.
Senior Madelyn Harrison was fourth in the 100 final at a PR 13.06 after running a 13.27 in the prelims. She later ran a PR 50.14 in the 300 hurdles and long jumped 15-10. Harrison capped the meet along with Lily Adams, Casady and Black by combining to run the 4x400 relay in 4:19.45.
In the field, Rowena Benjamin cleared 8-0 in the pole vault, and Marissa Baldy bounded 29-7.25 (PR) in the triple jump. Benjamin added a PR 17.87 effort in the 100 hurdle prelims.
The Riverhawk boys had PRs from Derek Goulart (11.67 100; 23.7 200); Tyson Long (4:21.67 1500); Kit Lockwood (4:32.76 1500); Vincent Ziegenhagen (43.83 300 hurdles; 146-5 javelin); and London Leitz (37-8.5 triple jump). Goulart also was second in the high jump at 6-0.
The Dalles had one champion, its distance medley relay. Egan Ziegenhagen, Aiden Erickson, Gabriel Castillo Quintana, and Rhett Loughmiller ran 11:41.0.
