Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield’s studio sits on the edge of the Columbia River, where wind, tide, and shifting light change the view hour by hour across the rocks below. From her windows, the landscape doesn’t sit still. It is both her view and her living canvas. The river is a part of her daily life, from her living room views to the time she spends in her backyard on the beach; she even jumps in the river every Sunday to swim in it.

After the sudden passing of her husband and during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Yvonne decided she no longer needed her big home and detached studio. She designed and built the property she now calls home, with an intentional studio and gallery below and a living space above. She wanted a place where her art and everyday life exist side by side. What she created is both practical and extraordinary. She has a working commercial gallery overlooking the majestic Columbia Gorge, but its true significance lies in what she has made possible for others.
