The Dalles hosted a small school track and field meet April 23, breaking up a week of training heading into this past weekend’s Dean Nice Invitational (see related story this issue).
The Riverhawks matched the sunny weather, shining with 44 personal records, just two weeks out from the 2024 Tri-Valley Conference district meet.
Of note was senior Madelyn Harrison’s 2 minute, 32.52 second personal record in the 800 meter. She had plenty of company in the PR department. Fellow senior Marissa Baldy cleared 4 feet, 6 inches in the high jump; frosh Lilyana Gonzalez jumped 14-4.5 in the long jump; the frosh trio of Ebany Mondragon, Alondra Romero and Ariana Gonzalez went 1-2-3 in the 400; and Lily Adams won the 100 at 13.36.
On the boys side, sophomore Derek Goulart had a busy day with two individual wins, a relay leg on the winning 4x100 and a runner-up finish in the 100. His wins came in his specialty, the high jump, at 6 feet, and — perhaps — a new specialty, the triple jump, at 40-3.25. He joined Anthony Jara, David McCracken, and River McClure to win the short relay in 45.66.
Senior Merik Peacock is getting some of the pop back in his javelin throw, as he tossed a season best 137-1. McCracken won the 100 in a PR 11.43, and the 200 in a PR 23.35 — an added a PR 18-4.5 long jump. McClure added a PR in the half-lap race of 24.31. In the 400, junior Egan Ziegenhagen won at a personal best 55.86. Kitt Lockwood swept the 1500 (4:45.2) and later the 800 (2:18.68) in personal record times. London Leitz reached 19 feet in the long jump (19-1.5) and bounded 37-3 in the triple jump. Junior Julian Morehouse cleared 13 feet to win the pole vault.
As mentioned, the mid-week meet attracted a couple of area small schools. Notable marks from those athletes included: South Wasco County: George Barnett, 18-6 long jump PR and 56.87 400 PR; senior Joey Holloway, PRs in the shot put (41-0.75) and discus (137.10.5), and a win in the javelin at 145-7; and Bailey Udey, a 32-6.25 PR in the girls triple jump.
Klickitat: Lena Thiemann, 110-2 win and PR in the girls javelin, plus a 14-5 long jump; Austin Fink, a 43-11 win in the shot put.
A noteworthy double by Lyle/Wishram trackster Ezekiel Marble in the boys 110 hurdles (19.37) and 300 hurdles (45.92); Jack Thiemann’s 38-3.25 triple jump PR; and Danika Wright’s 28-8 girls shot put win and 77-10 PR in the discus.
Glenwood: Tomei’ Tomeo’s distance double (2:22.14 800 and 4:48.7 1500); and Jayla Avila’s 91-4 girls javelin PR.
