THE DALLES — The No. 2-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks (3-0 Tri Valley Conference, 9-0-1 overall) remained undefeated in OSAA Class 4A boys soccer following two league road wins last week.
The Riverhawks won 2-1 over the Gladstone High Gladiators (2-1-1 TVC, 5-2-2 overall) Sept. 30, followed by a 9-1 blowout win over the Estacada High Rangers (0-3 TVC, 3-4-2 overall) Oct. 2. It marked the Riverhawks’ fifth straight win versus the Rangers over the past three years.
The nine goals scored against Estacada marked a season-high for the Riverhawks, and it was also their highest scoring game ever in Class 4A. The eight-goal margin of victory was their highest since an 8-0 home win over the La Grande High Tigers on Sept. 10, 2024.
The Dalles senior midfielder and leading scorer Juan Camarillo scored the game-winning goal on a free kick to help lead the Riverhawks to the close victory at Gladstone High School. It marked the Riverhawks’ seventh straight win over the Gladiators overlapping the past four seasons.
The Riverhawks were seeking to extend their undefeated streak to 11 in an Oct. 7 home contest versus the Molalla High Indians (0-3 TVC, 2-7 overall). The Riverhawks play Oct. 16 at the Madras High White Buffaloes (1-1-1 TVC, 1-7-1 overall).
The Dalles is one of two undefeated squads in the 31-team Class 4A along with the No. 1-ranked Stayton High Eagles (6-0-1). The Riverhawks’ highly prolific offense (4.7 goals per game average) ranks them second offensively with 47 goals. The No. 7-ranked Ontario High Tigers (8-2) have an average of 5.2 goals scored (52 goals).
