THE DALLES — The Dalles High School’s boys track and field team was 11th and the girls were 15th at the May 29-30, OSAA Class 4A state meet at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The team’s 23 qualifying berths into the annual meet produced 13 placers (top eight) and numerous changes on the school’s all-time top 10 record list.
Senior Derek Goulart placed fourth in one of his three individual events, the high jump in a season best leap of 6 feet, 2.75 inches. He also ran a non-placing 10th in the prelims of the 200 meters (22.91) and was 12th in the prelims of the 100 (11.27). Goulart teamed with David McCracken, Patrick Rankin and Noah Preston to finish sixth in the 4x100 relay in 43.72.
McCracken was seventh in the 100 and 200 meters. He ran 11.17 seconds to qualify for the 100 final on May 29 and a day later ran 11.29. He clocked 22.79 in the 200 prelims and 22.75 in the May 30 final for co-coaches Jill Pearson and Aaron Long.
The Riverhawks’ 4x400 relay team — McCracken, Noah Preston, Patrick Rankin, and Tyson Long — placed fifth in the meet’s final event in a season best 3 minutes, 26.48 seconds. Their time ranks them No. 2 in school history behind the 2025 Riverhawk team.
Long completed his stellar district running career in fine fashion, placing third in the 1500 meters in a personal best 4:06.85 (No. 4 on the school’s all-time list) and fifth in the 800 in 1:59.08. Rankin and Preston ran 12th and 13th in the open 400 prelims (512.33 and 51.65), and Rankin added a 42.40 time in the 300 hurdle prelims. Junior Tyler Irving was 12th in the heats of the 110 hurdles (17.64).
The Dalles girls, who won four district titles two weeks ago, scored 16 team points and were led at the state meet by sophomore Willow Ziegenhagen. She was fourth in the javelin at 112-9 and placed second in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 5-1.25. Teammate Rozlyn Elliott placed eighth in the high jump at 4-10.25.
Distance runner Flamingo Duyck, who won the 800-meter run at the district meet two weeks ago, raced to a lifetime best of 2:22.75 in the May 29 prelims. She finished eighth in the May 30 final in 2:28.71. Her prelim time is the fifth best in school history.
Evelyn Rogers, the district shot put champ, placed eighth in that event at state (35-3.25) and was 10th in the javelin at 98-9. Senior Laura Black parlayed her district pole vault championship with an eighth-place finish at state (8-11.75). Ebony Mondragon was 12th in the triple jump at 29-11.25.
Two Riverhawk girls relays competed in Eugene: the 4x400 relay of Josie Brace, Mondragon, Black and Ziegenhagen was 10th in the prelims in a season best time of 4:12.38. Gabriela Dominguez Bahena, Mondragon, Riley Stocks, and Black ran 51.28 in the shorter relay (11th).
Henley edged Scappoose for the boys championship, 97.5 to 94, and Klamath Union won the girls title.
