Noah Noteboom photo/fileLa Center High celebrated its 25-year head coach before the game and then dominated visiting Columbia High, 61-0, once play began Sept. 20 in the Trico League football opener for both teams.
The Bruins (1-2) will face another quality Class 1A opponent this week, when Coach Shawn Friese’s team plays Sept. 27 at Seton Catholic in Vancouver. Seton is 3-0 and has outscored its opponents 150-27 thus far.
Columbia High, which stayed competitive vs. Class 2A Columbia River in a nonleague football game Sept. 13, was not as fortunate against fourth-ranked La Center. The Wildcats had seven different players score touchdowns and the game went to a running clock early in the third quarter with the home team leading 51-0.
La Center held Columbia to less than 100 yards of total offense. The Wildcats picked off five Bruin passes, returning two of them for touchdowns. They also scored on a kickoff return to open the second half.
Columbia junior Wongani Schlegel had 50 rushing yards and 20 receiving yards to lead the Bruin offense.
