The Dalles football star Anthony Jara indicates his intention to take the kickoff "to the house." On May 14, Jara signed to play football at Eastern Oregon University.

The Dalles High senior Anthony Jara signed a national letter of intent May 14 to attend Eastern Oregon University in La Grande to play football for the Mountaineers’ NAIA team.
“I’m super excited about this opportunity and it’s a thrill to be able to continue my football career at the next level,” said Jara. “This was a goal of mine ever since I first started playing football when I was little kid.”
Jara was one of the key offensive performers for a Riverhawk squad guided by former head Coach Marc Schilling and assistant Coach Gabe Scherrer that finished the OSAA Class 4A Special District 2 2023 season with a 4-5 record. (Schilling resigned after two years at the conclusion of last season and the school has not hired a new coach.)
“I’m super proud of Anthony; he has put in lots of hard work and effort his entire career at The Dalles High School and he’s reaping the rewards of it now, which is very exciting,” said Scherrer. “It’s pretty exciting that he’s going to Eastern Oregon, and it’s not an easy transition to go from a small school like The Dalles to a four-year university.”
Jara, a receiver/defensive back, who played football all four years at The Dalles High School, scored seven touchdowns and led the Riverhawks’ passing attack with more than 600 yards receiving last year. Jara earned a Tri-Valley Conference first team all-league award as a receiver/defensive back last year.
Jara visited the EOU campus in March and earlier this month he decided that’s where he wanted to continue his education and football career while playing on the Mountaineers’ team guided by Coach Tim Camp.
