The Hood River Valley High School Athletic Department recently announced their Athletes of the Month for March and April: Parker Irusta (track), Ella Rand (girls lacrosse), Patrick Harvey (baseball), and Madè Vallejo (softball).
March Athletes of the Month
Parker Irusta —
“Parker Irusta has been a rock solid athlete for us this year. He’s currently ranked in the 5A Top 10 in the 100 meter, 200, long jump, and 4x100 relay. He’s one of our captains and has been willing to compete in whatever event we have needed him in. Great role model and example for our program. More recently, Irusta broke the school record in the 200 (21.95 seconds) and was a part of the record-breaking 4x100 relay (43.40). He signed a letter of intent to attend Humbolt State University in the fall.”
Ella Rand —
“Ella Rand is a sophomore. She was ranked ninth in state for save percentage and first in our league as of the beginning of this month. She constantly improves her skills and mental game. She is also a pleasure to coach and is among the top in her class academically. The Lincoln loss (April 2) ended up being a turning point for her season. Rand came away from it with a clear knowledge of what she needed to work on in order to improve her goal tending. The results were obvious in our next two games, 20 saves at 69 percent and two wins for HRV.”
April Athletes of the Month
Patrick Harvey —
“Patrick Harvey is a senior pitcher/outfielder who had a phenomenal April. Harvey is hitting .405 with three home runs and 26 RBI. He was also 3-0 with a 0.700 ERA in his first three league starts on the mound. Harvey shows undying leadership skills on and off the field in addition to being a great ballplayer. He has signed a letter of intent to play at Linn-Benton Community College.”
Madè Vallejo —
“Madè is the lone senior member of the Hood River Valley varsity softball team. She was selected by her teammates to serve as a captain. On the field, Vallejo is hitting .308 on the season and is a staple in the middle infield making great plays including an unassisted double play. The lasting impact will be the teaching and guidance she provides for the team. She recently signed her letter of intent to play for George Fox University.”
