It was a busy weekend in Sisters for many Hood River lacrosse families. The 5/6 and 7/8 grade Hood River Valley Eagles Select teams each made their way to the finals in their brackets at the Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational (SALI) tournament. Both teams ended up playing against a Riptide Select team from Portland in their age divisions.
The 5/6 team beat Salem, Keizer, and Canby to advance to a tough semifinal game against the Idaho Outlaws. With a dramatic 7-6 win, they advanced to the championship, but the Riptide players proved to be tough opponents and the 5/6 Eagles fell 9-1.
The 7/8 team had convincing wins over Sisters, Mid Valley, and Canby to meet Riptide in the finals. Despite an exciting comeback attempt, Hood River 7/8 lost 7-4 to Riptide.
With second-place finishes, coaches from the 5/6 and 7/8 teams are looking forward to matching up against more great competition in the Oregon Cup Select Shootout tournament this weekend in Beaverton.
Hood River Youth Lacrosse has recreational teams from first through eighth grades. Signups happen in January of each year and the season runs from March to June. Select teams are chosen once the season begins to compete at a higher level against teams from all over the Northwest.
