HOOD RIVER – Hood River Valley pulled away from Parkrose in the second half to clinch a Class 5A state playoff berth, with a, 48-6, football win Oct. 30 on senior night at Henderson Stadium.
The Eagles (8-1 overall, 6-1 District 1) will find out Nov. 1 where and when they will play a first-round playoff contest on Nov. 7. Hood River has qualified for the state football playoffs for a school record four successive seasons.
Hood River led 7-6 early in the second quarter before scoring game’s final 41 points to pull away from the Broncos (5-4, 3-4). The fourth quarter was played with a running clock because of the score differential.
HRV quarterback Bodie Stuben threw three touchdown passes, two to Talon-Quinn Britt and another to Davin Snyder. Senior running back Bam Layna added two rushing TDs on a 17-carry, 182-yard rushing night. Stuben was an efficient 8-for-13 passing for 127 yards. Britt caught four passes for 77 yards and his two scores.
Hood River gained 444 yards of offense from scrimmage and had 20 first downs – 13 before halftime when the Eagles held a 21-6 lead. It was 14-6 HRV when the Eagles regained possession on a Parkrose failed fourth-down conversion with 33 seconds left before intermission. Layna ran 34 yards to the Parkrose 43-yard line. From there, Stuben and Snyder connected on a fly pattern down the left sideline for a touchdown with 15 seconds on the clock. Stuben added the point-after kick – one of six on the night – and after the halftime break, HRV picked up where it left off in the third period with three more touchdowns.
