(Home) Season Finale

Cody Lingel leaps for a header during the first half of Monday’s game.

The Horizon Christian soccer team had their last regular season home game on Monday, where the Hawks (7-4, 7-1 league) hosted the Open Door Christian Academy Huskies (3-8, 3-6 league). Horizon earned its third shutout of the season, defeating the Huskies, 2-0. Quinn Roetcisoender sent one into Open Door’s side netting early in the first half to put Horizon up 1-0, and Lingel added the insurance goal in the second, sliding one near post past the keeper. Horizon hits the road for its final game of the regular season on Thursday, which will be a contest against Livinstone Adventist Academy at 4:15 p.m. in Salem. Special District 6 got very interesting Monday night, with leader C.S. Lewis Academy — who gave Horizon its only league loss of the season — losing to Livingstone. A win Thursday will give Horizon the top spot in the district and prime seeding for the playoffs.
