THE GORGE — The Class 1A Dufur High Rangers capped a tremendous season in OSAA Class 4A/3A/2A/1A girls golf as they took 10th place in the state tournament May 18-19 at Eagle Crest Golf Resort in Redmond.
The Rangers, led by senior Tygh Timinsky, shot 845. Timinsky concluded her Dufur High School golf career by shooting a 36-hole score of 168 to finish sixth individually out of 69 players. The Rangers, guided by first-year coach Bill Timinsky (Tygh’s father), also had scores from senior Makaila Collins (221), senior Kaylee Wiles (223) and junior Piper Murders (233) to round out their team score. The Rangers were the only Class 1A team to participate in the tournament.
“I’m very proud of the girls, expecially coming from a Class 1A school and getting tenth place in the state tournament,” said Bill Timinsky. “There was some happy and sad tears shed by the girls, so it was kind of a bittersweet event knowing that it was the end of the season. I also want to say thank you to The Dalles Country Club for letting our team practice there throughout the season.”
Tygh Timinsky, Wiles and first-year golfer Collins ended their Dufur High School golf careers. Collins shot a personal best score of 96 on May 19 to break the 100-shot barrier for the first time ever.
Tygh Timinsky, a four-time state qualifier and a four-time OSAA Special District 6 champion, will continue her golf career in college as she’ll attend Dodge City Community College in Kansas and play on the women’s golf team there in the fall.
The Dalles High Riverhawk senior Andrew Westin capped his career by shooting 191 to take 44th place individually out of a field of 68 players at the OSAA Class 4A boys state golf tournament May 18-19 at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.
Hood River Valley sophomore Aksel Betz concluded the golf season by competing in the OSAA Class 5A boys state tournament May 18-19 at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie. Betz, a two-time state qualifier, shot a 36-hole score of 159 to finish 18th individually out of a field of 67 golfers.
