HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley (HRVHS) girls wrestling team finished fifth at the 2026 Northwest Oregon Conference district tournament Feb. 7 at Hillsboro High School.
The Eagles scored 80 points and had one individual champion in Ayleen Marquez at 110 pounds. Marquez won all three of her wrestled matches, including a decision over Kinley Walters of Canby in the title match.
Hood River had three second-place finishers: Asai Akhmedova (140), Valeria Solorio Campos (170), and Xiomara Gordian-Gomez (155). Akhmedova advanced to the championship match at 140 where she lost to Centennial’s Alexsa Fountaine by fall. Campos and Hillsboro’s Ionela Macavei were the only two wrestlers at 170; Macavei won by an 8-1 decision. Gordian-Gomez won twice at 155 before losing in the final to Wilsonville’s Megan Haase.
Rubi Arriola Sandoval (190) and Melissa Jara Vela (105) each won a match at district.
Hood River Valley will compete in the OSAA Girls 6A/5A Special District 2 tournament Feb. 13-14 at Sandy High School. Twenty-six teams will be competing for qualifying spots in each of the 14 weight classes into the Feb. 27-28, 6A/5A state tournament at Portland’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The top four finishers at district qualify for state.
The Special District 2 tourney begins at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 and will continue that day until the quarterfinal rounds are complete. Competition on Feb. 14 begins at 10 a.m.; semifinals are at 11:30 a.m. and finals at 3 p.m. Adult admission is $10 a day or $18 for a two-day pass. Student and children admission is $5 per day.
