THE GORGE — The Dufur High girls and South Wasco boys have clinched the regular season OSAA Class 1A Big Sky League basketball championships, and earned first-round byes in the 2026 district playoffs.
The Dufur girls will be the Big Sky West No. 1 seed in the playoffs, which begin Feb. 17. Dufur will host a semifinal game Feb. 19 against the winner of the East’s No. 2 team and the West’s No. 3 team. Those spots will be determined this week.
South Wasco County (7-3 league) and Trout Lake (6-2) are vying for the West’s No. 2 and 3 spots. The Sherman (8-14, 4-5) girls are the likely No. 2 seed in district representing the Big Sky East.
Coach Aimee Bell’s Dufur team improved to 19-2 this season (9-0 Big Sky) with a 57-43 home win Feb. 6 over South Wasco County. The Rangers are ranked ninth in OSAA Class 1A.
The South Wasco boys, ranked No. 4 in the OSAA standings, improved to 22-2 this season and 12-0 in conference play with wins this past week over Trout Lake, Dufur, and Horizon Christian. The Redsides, winners of 10 straight, are scheduled to finish their regular season schedule in Maupin on Feb. 10 against Klickitat/Glenwood.
South Wasco will host a Big Sky playoff game Feb. 18 in Maupin against the winner of the first-round game between the West’s No. 3 team and East’s No. 2. Heading into this week, the West’s No. 2 and 3 spots will be decided between Klickitat/Glenwood, Horizon Christian, and Dufur. Heading into the final week of games, the East’s Nos. 1-3 spots are Ione/Arlington, Condon, and Lyle/Wishram
The Big Sky district tournament is Feb. 21 at The Dalles High School.
