The Dalles High School senior Jazmine DeLaCruz signed a letter of intent on May 7 to attend Lane Community College in Eugene, where she’ll continue her athletic career and play on the Titan’s women’s soccer team.
DeLaCruz was accompanied by numerous friends and family members in a signing ceremony at The Dalles High School. DeLaCruz was a member of the Riverhawks girls soccer team for four years, helping lead the team to the 2023 Tri-Valley Conference championship and a state playoff berth.
“I am super excited about having the opportunity to go LCC and playing college soccer is something that I’ve always wanted to do ever since I was a freshman in high school,” said DeLaCruz. “This truly is a blessing to have the opportunity and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. We had such a great season last year in winning the league title and going to the state playoffs. It was one of the best seasons for The Dalles High Riverhawks in a very long time.”
She said The Dalles program is similar to the one Coach Joshwa Martin has at Lane.
DeLaCruz was a midfielder on a Riverhawk squad, guided by longtime Coach Colby Tonn. DeLaCruz scored six goals and had two assists last year and she earned a 2023 TVC first team all-league award.
“I think Jazmine has been doing a great job playing soccer for the last four years and I could tell when she was a freshman, that she had lots of talent. We had kind of an older squad that year, but one thing that kind of set her apart is she showed up every day, she had a good attitude and she always worked hard in practice. … It’s nice to see things pay off for her now and being able to play at a good program at Lane for Coach Joshwa Martin,” Tonn said.
DeLaCruz is the fifth Riverhawks’ girls soccer player in the past three years to move on and continue playing soccer in college.
