Welcome to November and back to Standard Time. I hope everyone enjoyed that extra hour of sleep.

Here in our community, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Glenwood “kid” John Dean. John, the son of Philip and Veneta “Sweeter” Dean, grew up here. After graduating from Glenwood High School, he lived most of his adult life in Trout Lake where he made many friends. I remember John as a somewhat feisty basketball player who gave every game his all out on the court. He was no slacker and that showed in everything he did, everywhere he worked, in his adult life. Our deepest condolences go to Mary Lou, Jewell, Tanya, all his grandchildren, his brothers and sister and their families, and all the extended Dean family.

Our Glenwood and Trout Lake high school volleyball team, Lakewood, has completed their 2026 season. After losing a few players, with just seven left on the team, Coaches Jaecee Hoctor and Jade Deiders shifted the team format and created a libero position. Those Lakewood girls rocked that new format and really came on strong their last few games.
We are so proud of Glenwood high school players Jocee Hoctor (the libero) and Della Fujita, as well as Iris Deiders, JayCee McLean, Gracie Schmid, Brooke Thompson, and Trinity Anderson from Trout Lake. Although Lakewood just missed qualifying for the District Tournament, two players received All League honors. Iris received 2nd Team All League and Jocee received All League Honorable Mention, well-deserved honors for both of those amazing athletes.

Glenwood Grange No. 94 held the last meeting of the year last Sunday. It was a great meeting, with plans made for some fun and exciting events. Stay tuned for more news on what’s in the near future. A slate of officers for the coming year was elected with a unanimous vote. Those newly elected or re-elected are Linda Williams as president and treasurer, Aimee Wadell as vice president, steward, and chaplain, Mary Pierce as secretary, Jerry Dean as gatekeeper, and Laurene Eldred as women’s activity chairman, with assistance by Carol Johnson. Executive Committee members are Jerry Dean, Larry Williams, and Howard Wellenbrock.
Although the members who are active are few, it’s a good feeling to see those members step up to support our Grange so well. Please remember, Glenwood Grange is about community service, the meetings are fun and informational and don’t take up much time once a month, with no meetings during the winter months. Please consider joining so we can keep it functioning and keep our hall as a great community gathering place for birth-days, holidays, and various groups.
And here’s a reminder about using the hall. For private occasions, the rental fee for the entire day is $35, a pretty good rate for a nice, comfortable place to gather, with plenty of tables and chairs, two restrooms, and a kitchen area. Contact me if you wish to reserve the hall. Contact information is on the bulletin board on the outside of the building.

I would like to include a few words to illustrate how caring and supportive we in our tiny little community are of one another. Awhile back, we were all saddened to hear of the passing of Jan Gimlin. The loss of a loved one is so very hard, and our hearts were heavy with thoughts for Jan’s mother, Kay Hansen Carr, her sons Brad and Brent, her sister Michelle, and all the extended Gimlin family. In a recent conversation with Kay, she told me how much she and her family appreciated all the phone calls, visits, cards, and words of comfort from so many in our community. Reaching out and finding the words to comfort someone in a time of loss can sometimes be a bit hard, but please keep in mind your words truly do bring comfort to the family at these times. Kay wants to let everyone who reached out in any way to know how very much your words of love and care meant to them all and to extend her heartfelt thank you on behalf of the Carr and Gimlin family.
