The Columbia and Hood River Valley High School sailing teams have competed in two district races this season, with both clubs making waves. The Bruins and Eagles both competed at the NWISA Ranking regatta #2 in Eagle Harbor at Bainbridge Island, Wash. on March 16-17.Â
The Bruins scored second with 83 points and HRV managed 12th with 239 points. The top six boats qualified for districts, and the Bruins will head to Anacortes, Wash. on May 4-5.
This weekend, the Eagles narrowly made the cut to qualify for districts at the Ranking Regatta No. 3 at Vashon Island’s Dockton Park. Hood River tied with the Port Townsend Redhawks with 180 points. The Bruins managed a first place finish with 101 points. CHS senior Leif Hauge led the Columbia 1 boat with Cassidy Reitman as the crew — Reitman is an HRV sailor and they were able to crew for Columbia at this event. Columbia 2 had Cole Newbrook as Skipper and Taylor Sass as crew.
The two teams will compete each weekend through mid-May, ending with the Oregon State Championships in Cascade Locks on May 11-12.Â
