THE GORGE — Junior Cadence Young was voted by Big Sky League volleyball coaches as the 2025 player of the year.
Young led the Rangers to a perfect league record at 12-0 and the district tournament championship. Dufur also had first-team pick Hailee Pechanec, a junior, and second-team selections Ainslee Eisland and Maranda Prettyman, also juniors, honored by the coaches.
The league’s second-place finisher in the regular season and at district, Ione/Arlington, was led by first-team picks Phegley Padberg and Novalee Campbell, each a junior, and second teamer Silvia Garagozzo, a senior.
Also selected to the first team were: South Wasco County senior Jayda Iverson (the 2024 player of the year); Redside senior Bailey Udey (also first team in 2024); and Sherman County junior Kiara Peters (a second-team choice in 2024).
Other locals on the second team included Irene Ghirardello, senior, from Sherman, and Jocee Hoctor, a sophomore from Trout Lake/Glenwood.
Local honorable mention picks were junior Iris Deiders and sophomore Magdalyn Rogers of Trout Lake/Glenwood, and Sherman senior Addison Smith (first team in 2024).
