WHITE SALMON – Wrestling season is right around the corner for fans in White Salmon, as the Columbia Bruins wrestling program started practice on Nov. 17.
Columbia is led by Coach Dave Blevins, who is in his second year as the head coach for the Bruins, and assisted by volunteer Rich Polkinghorn.
“I’m looking for us to be very competitive this year,” said Blevins. “I’m excited about every week.”
Columbia has a squad that features six returning seniors: Robert Grabb, Wyatt Polido, Giovanni Ruiz-Sanchez, Sylvia Pimley, Ezekiel Carl and Porter Simms and three returning participants in the WIAA 1A state meet at the Tacoma Dome last year: Eda O'Connor (110-pound weight class), Gio Ruiz-Sanchez (126), Everett Coyner (165) and Razo Salazar (215).
“There’s also, of course, our Trico league,” said Blevins. “There are a lot of good teams in our league, and we’re very excited to get started.”
The Trico League made its presence known in 2024-25, with six state champions last year at the Tacoma Dome (five boys, one girl).
The Bruins’ first meet is the Wyatt Draper invitational on Dec. 5 (girls, starting at 6 p.m.) and Dec. 6 (boys, starting at 10 a.m.) at Ridgefield High School.
The first home meet is a dual against The Dalles on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m.
