WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High football team lost a non-league matchup in its homecoming game to 2B Raymond/South Bend, 49-13, on a sunny Oct. 18 afternoon.
The Ravens (3-4) got off to a hot start as Chris Banker ran for a 10-yard touchdown with 11:11 left in the first quarter. They also scored on the last play of the first half — and two more times in between.
Columbia’s Humberto Pulido had an opportunity for a field goal with four seconds left in the half, but pushed the kick right. The Ravens had one play to end the half, and Chris Banker took it the distance for an 80-yard rushing touchdown, his third of the day, as time expired.
Columbia’s offense finally got going late in the third quarter, as quarterback Hunter Wang found Jordan MacCormack for a 50-yard touchdown pass with 56 seconds left in the third. The Bruins’ two-point try was no good, and the Ravens now led 35-6.
The Bruins (1-5) had another drive end on a lost fumble in the fourth period. Columbia had driven all the way down to the Raymond/South Bend 5-yard line, but Wang fumbled and the Ravens recovered in the endzone for a touchback with 5:19 left to play.
Wang redeemed himself in the closing minute. He connected with Caleb Reynolds on a 70-yard touchdown pass with 29 seconds left in the game.
The Bruins take on the Fort Vancouver Trappers at 5 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver.
