Columbia High School won the girls 4x100 meter relay at the March 23 Tiger Invite track and field invitational in Battle Ground.
The Bruin short relay of Bella Hamilton, Saylor Hauge, Sequoia Cohen, and Sara Miller won the one-lap race in 51.24 seconds. Each athlete was busy in individual events, as well, in the meet which drew 20 teams to southwest Washington.
Sophomore Miller was seventh in the 100 meters in a PR 13.0 seconds and later finished second in the long jump at 15 feet, 7.5 inches. Cohen, a junior, also had a personal 100 best of 13.43 in the 100. Hauge, also a junior, was fourth in the high jump with a PR 4-10 best, and sophomore teammate Hailey Tolbert cleared 4-8. Hauge also was eighth in the 200 (28.05). Tolbert added an eighth-place finish in the 100 hurdles in 17.77 and teammate Mariela Casarez was 15th in 19.19. Also in the jumps, junior Amya Shaw bounded 27-4.5 in the triple jump.
In the distances, senior Esther Kline was second in the 3000 in 12:47.75 and Damarys Alvarez was eighth. Freshman Lilah Zimmerman was 10th in the 1600 meter run in 5:42.46 and later doubled back with a 2:42.97 effort in the 800.
Columbia’s girls scored 26.5 team points to finish 11th out of 23 scoring schools.Â
The Bruin boys did not score any team points (top eighth finishers), but they did have some personal best performances. Senior August Lorincz had PRs in the 200 (25.19, and CHS’s top finish at 13th place) and 400 (54.59). Lorincz also ran a leg on Columbia’s 4x100 relay along with Petey and Wongani Schlegel and Nathan Breedlove (48.42).
In the field, Columbia was led by sophomore Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez. He had a personal best throw of 112-8 in the discus, put the shot 36-7.5, and threw the javelin a PR 103-3.
