In terms of both numbers and talent, Hood River Valley High School boys and girls freestyle ski teams dominated Mt. Hood Ski League action this season. After a final league contest last weekend, district champions were announced in the league’s slopestyle, rail jam, halfpipe and skiercross formats.
Claiming district titles for the boys were Brendan Kerr in slopestyle, Tucker FitzSimons in rail jam and halfpipe and Patrick Crompton in skiercross. As a freshman, FitzSimons earned the combined individual title, followed by Levi Roeseler and Brendan Kerr in second and third. The overall team title also went to the HRV boys ahead of West Linn in second and Sandy in third. The coveted Ski Meister trophy went to Crompton.
The list of league champions continues with the HRV girls squad, which took the top two slots in all but the halfpipe (champion was Maya Bernhard-Davidson of The Dalles). Hannah Bergemann nabbed first in slopestyle and rail jam and second in the halfpipe and skiercross which made her the easy candidate as the individual combined champion. Kayla Van Hoose was second in combined standings. Korey Cimock took the skiercross title.
The team competes this week at state contests on Mount Hood. Freestyle events are scheduled for March 6 at Mt. Hood Meadows, while the rest of the HRVHS ski team competes at Ski Bowl March 7-8 in slalom and GS action.
