The Dalles High Riverhawks girls basketball team has improved since a year ago, proving that with a 55-39 win over the Pendleton High Buckaroos Jan. 4 at Pendleton.
The No. 9-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks girls basketball team split two non-league road games in the Jingle Jam Tournament Dec. 28-29 at Riverdale High School in Portland.
Playing their first game in two weeks, The Dalles High Riverhawks (1-1) notched their first win with a 56-41 victory over the Columbia High Bruins (1-3) in a non league girls basketball game Dec. 16 at The Dalles High School’s Kurtz Gym.
The Dalles High Riverhawks girls basketball team faced a very tough opponent in the season opener on the road Dec. 2 at Banks High, losing 52-25 to the Braves.
Banks was ranked No. 6 with 17-8 record and advanced to the 4A state playoffs in addition to winning the Cowapa League Championship last year. Despite their move down to Class 3A this year, the Braves are still a strong squad after losing just three players to graduation and they have nine players returning from last year’s successful playoff team.
The Dalles High Riverhawks’ boys and girls basketball teams had five players earn Intermountain Conference all league awards for the recently completed season.
The Dalles High Riverhawks girls basketball team is hoping to snap a five-game losing streak and start the new year with a win in a 6:30 p.m. home game Wednesday versus the Hillsboro Spartans (3-2) at Kurtz Gym.
