I just wanted to take time out to congratulate Hood River News for getting us our local news so consistently. I look to Hood River News each week to find out what is happening in our small community. Whether the stories are large or small, each week we get plenty of the most current information that is pertinent to our valley and our county.

Focus on ‘real pariah’
“Nestlé’s proposed water bottling plant in the Columbia River Gorge wouldn’t be Oregon’s first bottled water operation, but it’s the only one attracting angry protestors.” So states an article on Oregon Live (projects.oregonlive.com/bottled-water), which then goes on to say that Nestlé’s plant would be the 32nd bottling plant in Oregon.
So why is Cascade Locks being singled out as the pariah of Oregon? Why can’t Nestlé bottle water in Oregon just as Coca-Cola or Safeway does?
Is it NIMBY or is there something else going on here?
If there are genuine environmental concerns with bottling Oregon’s water in plastic containers, then why not do something about that at the state level? Who knows what could be accomplished if all these anti-Nestlé protesters switched their focus to the real pariah — the plastic bottle — and marched on Salem?
I’m up for that. Are you?
In the meantime — no segregation in the Gorge.
