Many times in life we may have feelings or thoughts of appreciation and gratitude for those around us. This is one of those times for me. When we express those feelings, others involved may be enriched and sustained. If we fail to mention anything, we feel the same, but no one else benefits. An example of this happened many years ago when my wife took out a utility pole after sliding off an icy highway. The patrol officer who came to our home was so polite, caring and professional that I intended to write a letter of thanks to his department. But I kept putting it off until it became too late and an opportunity was missed. These feelings of action are perishable.
Now to my point, I would like to recognize and thank the girls and boys basketball teams for their great examples during each game and season just ended. They always played their best, gave it all they had and were at the top of sportsmanship conduct.
In the recent girls’ game against North Albany, our girls were down by some 14 points and it looked like they had no chance of coming back. I, as one who tries to attend all of the home games, was so proud of these amazing young women, the way they fought in the face of a very good team. They not only made a great comeback and tied the score, but they went ahead. Winning the game would have been great, but they are all winners to me, including the reserve players, coaches and parents. I just wanted to honor these youth while the opportunity is fresh.
