THE DALLES — On Saturday, March 28, local residents in the Columbia Gorge will come together with millions of Americans in thousands of events nationwide for another day of nonviolent protest at the third No Kings Day of Action.
The protest will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on W. Sixth Street between Cherry Heights and Webber. The local event is hosted by Protect Oregon’s Progress, a local chapter of the national organization, Indivisible.
There will also be No Kings rallies in Hood River, White Salmon/Bingen, Goldendale, Trout Lake, and Stevenson, said the press release.
“Our community is collaborating to push back against the president’s violent, authoritarian actions,” said Linda Kentro, Protect Oregon’s Progress Steering Committee member. “We’re bringing together local residents from all walks of life who share a simple message: We don’t do dictators or kings in America. The power of the people can take us towards freedom and away from war.”
The No Kings nonviolent protests are organized by the No Kings Coalition, including Indivisible, ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, Human Rights Campaign, League of Conservation Voters, National Nurses United, and others. All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety, said a press release. Organizers are trained in de-escalation, every local event has a safety lead, and organizers coordinating closely with local partners to ensure powerful, nonviolent local actions.
